Review: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

SYNOPSIS:

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…beware of getting swept too far away.

MY THOUGHTS:

WOW WOW WOW!!
I must admit, I went into this book somewhat skeptical. I had all these ideas as to how the events are going to unfold as the story continued, but boy was I wrong! Halfway through the book I had this tendency to jump up and down of anticipation. I wanted to read so fast just so I could know what happened next.

There were so many unexpected twists and turns toward the end- it was such a rush. Whatever you think Caravel is going to be like, I promise you it’s so much better. I swear guys, at times I felt like I can taste the words and smell the excitement. You’re gonna find yourself guessing till the end.

Scarlett is the only character you’d know anything about, all the other characters are a complete mystery. I can’t say much about the characters without spoiling and it’s better going into this book knowing
absolutely nothing about it. So, have no fear- just go for it.

If you like the Hunger Games and The Night Circus, this one would be perfect for you. I also strangely got reminded of the Mad Hatter at some point. My advice is go into it without any expectations or spoilers and just enjoy. :)
Alright, now help me decide what to do with my life next!!

MY RATING: Outstanding
